Sunlight looks white, but it is a mix of many colors. When light passes into water or glass, it bends. Each color bends by a slightly different amount, so the colors spread apart and a rainbow appears.

A moving object keeps moving unless a force changes its motion. On Earth, friction between surfaces and air resistance push against motion, so sliding things slow down and stop.

Plants make their own food through photosynthesis. Leaves capture sunlight and use its energy to turn water and carbon dioxide into sugar. Oxygen is released into the air as a by-product.

Earth spins on an imaginary line called its axis. The side facing the Sun has daytime, and the side facing away has night. One full turn takes about 24 hours.
